Venture fund for hi-tech development

The initiative to set up a hi-tech risk investment fund under the hi-tech draft law is expected to boost Vietnam's development in the field.

According to the bill which is scheduled to be adopted at the fourth National Assembly session in October 2008, this is a State financial fund specializing in investing in and providing consultation services to hi-tech businesses, organizations and individuals with hi-tech products development projects.

Viet Nam, US sign first official agreement on health

Viet Nam and the US on July 20 signed their first official agreement promising continued cooperation on health issues, including emerging diseases, avian and pandemic influenza and HIV/AIDS The Agreement on Health and Medical Science was signed in Washington by Vietnamese Minister of Health Tran Thi Trung Chien and U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Mike Leavitt during Minister Chien's visit to the US from July 17-22.

Health sector to boost services at grassroots

The health sector plans to improve its services at the grassroots level and to introduce greater self-determination in a bid to raise standards, a two-day workshop in Hanoi heard on August 27.

"Selecting priorities in making health policy" was organised by the Institute of Health Strategy and Policy and the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Poultry vaccines against H5N1virus likely to come soon

A trial production of 200,000 doses of vaccine against the H5N1 flu virus conducted by the Central Veterinary Medicine Company has shown positive results, opening up the possibility of a massive immunisation of newly-hatched poultry in the coming time, said a veterinary official on May 9.
